Squash

Cultural Notes

Plant squash seed ¼ inch deep in 4 inch pots indoors starting in late April, especially in shorter season areas. Plant directly outdoors in warmer conditions, usually the end of May. Create a planting saucer with a diameter of 3 feet for your seedlings or seeds, shaped like a moon crater., with a soil edge 4 to 6 inches tall. Plant along the inside edge. This planting method keeps the soil warmer and the moisture where it needs to be, especially for deep watering which squash plants love. They are heavy feeders so use lots of well composted manure and compost to create your planting saucers.

Our seed packets average 10- 15 seeds.
